Why can we expect discourse analysis to be helpful in semantics? What is “semantic theory of discourse”?

Because both subjects have the same study object: the meaning. The discourse analysis studies the sense production, the production of meaning inside of a context, which is variable. In addition, semantics concerned with the meaning.
However, sometimes meaning is variable, in other words, it transforms depending on the reality that is inserted, if we change the context it changes the sense. For instance, a same word can acquire several meanings depending on the reality that is inserted, the reason for the discourse analysis can be helpful in semantics is because it is impossible to study the meaning outside the certain social, historical and cultural context.
It is a theory which says that semantics and discourse analysis work together because one is inside the other.
